Monday was, of course, Memorial Day. Our family didn't really do much. We'd done BBQ on Saturday, and I'd whipped up a large crock pot full of tortilla soup on Sunday, so Monday was a lazy & quiet day of relaxing, and munching on leftovers.
Tuesday? Well.....Tuesday, Gail and I were SUPPOSE to have gone to Texas Children's for her cardiology checkup. As a result of torrential downpours, and historic flooding, that did NOT happen! I wen't to bed Monday night with my nerves in a wreck at the thought of driving out to Houston in the thunderstorms (I have high levels of anxiety, and driving in storms is a quick way to set off panic attacks for me). My husband had stayed awake the majority of the night, watching the rain and hail come down. He came to bed around midnight, and I got up shortly before 1:00 a.m., when my alarm went off. Gail's echo-cardiogram was suppose to be sedated, which meant she wasn't allowed to eat after 1:20 a.m., so I'd woken her to get her one last bottle before the cutoff time. It was as she was eating that I logged onto the computer to check the radar, as it was heavily downpouring at the time. That was also the same time I started looking, and seeing all the pictures of the floods!
After seeing pictures of the flooding, I REALLY flew into panic mode. In fact, it took me a few hours to convince myself (thanks to the help of many wonderful friends of mine on Facebook) to keep Gail and I home, where we'd be safe. I actually received two very thoughtful phone calls from Texas Children's that morning!! The first call was from a staff member asking where we were, because they wanted to make sure that we were safe at home instead of trying to make the trek out there. About 20 minutes later, we got ANOTHER phone call from a staff member, asking how Gail, personally, was doing, and if we needed any help with rescheduling. I thought that was very thoughtful of them, and it has only IMPROVED my already positive view of the hospital and its staff! To paint a picture for my readers who aren't in Texas, much of Houston was completely shut down that day (We live over an hour away). Metro was down, interstates were not passable, and many took significant damage to their cars from the flooding, not just from the roads & highways, but also from being completely submerged in underground parking garages. That morning, while looking for some kind of positive vibes to post, I took a picture of Maddie's bean plant that she'd brought home from school the week before.
This little bean plant was very little 3 or 4 days prior, when we'd first planted it into the ground. This plant is full of life, and just keeps on growing! Take a look below:
Can you see the difference between Tuesday, and today!?!? I'm just like, WOW!! I'm also a bit jealous, as Maddie's little plant has done better than any of the crops that my husband and I have started so far!
Aside from Tuesday, the rest of the week went by with a lot less chaos! Wednesday, Gail got her first taste of noodles, and BOY did she love them!!
I truly don't remember much of how Thursday was for us. I'm fairly certain I spent the day relaxing, in preparation for yesterday! Yesterday was Field Day at my daughters' school. This was also Kay's first FULL day, and the first day she was able to ride the "big kid" bus home (she's only ever gotten to ride it TO school, so far).
I really and truly wish that I could have gotten more pictures of Kay! Unfortunately, there was a rope fence that the parents had to stand behind! The camera on my phone isn't all that great, so I wasn't really able to get any clear shots of her! Maddie, being in First grade, had a little more leniency when it came to running toward the fence, so I was able to get some clear shots of her! All in all, the girls both really had fun Friday, and THAT is what really matters!!!
As for today?? Well, after today, our little family officially has TWO cheerleaders in our house!! Kay was so sad last year because she wasn't old enough to join the squad, but this coming year she WILL be!! I took them both this morning to sign them up!! It was a hectic morning, followed by a lazy day when we got home. It has definitely been a long week!!
For now? I'm off to catch a little relaxation. Here's to hoping you each had a wonderful week as well!
