About Me

Hello everyone! The name is Jen, and I'm a SAHM/WAHM of 3 beautiful little girls!

I live my life with the purpose of being FRUGAL! I wasn't always this way, however. My journey to living a more frugal lifestyle began back in 2012, when my husband and I made the decision to purchase our very first home together. Before our big purchase, we were careless spenders who didn't have a care in the world when it came to how or where our money was spent.

About 3 months after moving into our home, finances got tight, and I knew there were changes that needed to be made. This is around the time that I started teaching myself how to coupon, especially after seeing and hearing so many stories from others, and how much money THEY were saving, as a result! For a while, the simple use of coupons helped us TREMENDOUSLY with saving/budgeting our money! In fact, things had improved so much, that my husband and I had decided that it was time to expand our little family from 4, to 5. Little did we know that our decision would put us in a more strapped position, forcing us to become more frugal than we'd already become.

You see, when we got pregnant with our youngest daughter, there was a huge game-changer thrown at us. At our 20 week ultrasound, we were told there was a small spot on her heart. At the time, we were told that it was likely a calcium spot, and that it would likely resolve on its own. We were referred to a different specialist for a more detailed ultrasound....just in case. This more detailed ultrasound started a whirlwind of events that would change our lives forever.

Our youngest daughter, Gail, was diagnosed with complex congenital heart defects (CHD), which affects approximately 1 in 100 babies. Add that to the fact that she was also diagnosed with a condition known as Heterotaxy Syndrome (a condition in which organs don't form WHERE they are suppose to form throughout the body), which affects approximately 1 in 10,000 babies. These things mean that our lives also have become about driving to different specialists, doctor appointments, etc., which can get very costly VERY quickly.

Now? We strive to be frugal in every possible way that we can! We coupon, we grow our own food, we hunt for deals and discounts WHENEVER we can, and I've recently started baking & cooking as many things as possible from scratch, because it truly cuts the grocery bill down a LOT! I've also recently gotten into product testing & reviewing, etc. It's fun, and it helps us become aware of products that our family may not have previously been aware of (it also happens to be a great way to relieve stress and worries!)

We still struggle financially, after everything that's been thrown our way, but I'm learning to keep a positive attitude no matter what. My own personal experiences with these struggles are an influencing factor for why I originally started this blog. I want to be able to help others like me, who may be struggling with finances, and find little ways to help the dollar stretch! There may be times when I'm not as active as I COULD be on here, but that's simply because life with 3 kids can get busy! ...Especially during those weeks with the back-to-back appointments in Houston with my youngest, so I ask you all to please be patient during those times.

All of the above being said, I look forward to helping you all save, and I hope y'all love reading reviews, because there will be plenty of those to come!

  1. Thank you for sharing your inspiring story! I admire how you are able to put a positive spin on things with all that you have gone through. I'm a new parent myself so I can't even imagine how hard your situation might be at times. I wish you and your family well.

I'm working towards having my wife become a SAHM too, and we're just trying to figure out the finances. We'll get there one day!
